Artist Audrey Guttman creates for the GYSO

The Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra begins its third artistic year, expanding the boundaries of its collaborations, not only geographically and artistically, but also touching other forms of art, such as visual art.

The Belgian artist, Audrey Guttman, believes that the convergence between the music and the art she represents, the collage, is summarized in three points: composition, rhythm and color. On the occasion of the poster collage she created for the GYSO, she stated: “As a young artist, I am particularly moved by the alliance of young Greek musicians through the GYSO and I am very grateful to have collaborated with this remarkable project”.

Her memories of her past visits to Greece are dominated by the vast sky, the majesty of the sun and the musicality of the Greek language. She was thus inspired to portray the GYSO “as a large sun rising over a sea of young musicians, captained by a generous soul”.

Influenced by her own experience of Greece, the Kazantakis’ Odyssey, as well as the shapes she sees when listening to orchestral music, she created a composition that mirrors the purity and mythical dimension of Greece, while the intense colors she uses reflect the orchestra’s distinct youthfulness.
