Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra
Antonis Sousamoglou is Concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and maintains a rich artistic career as a violinist, composer, and arranger.
He regularly appears as a soloist with all major Greek orchestras, including the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra, and the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra. His international collaborations include the City University of London Orchestra, Philharmonia Moments Musicaux of Taiwan, the Tübingen Studentenphilharmonie, the Sofia Academy Symphony Orchestra, and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed at major concert venues in Greece and abroad, including the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonie, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, St John’s Smith Square in London, the Onassis Stegi, Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, the Pärnu Concert Hall and Estonia Concert Hall in Estonia, Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall and Thessaloniki Concert Hall, as well as the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus.
His artistic activity also includes three albums as songwriter, as well as numerous recording projects and symphonic performances as an arranger with Greek orchestras. His compositions have been performed at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Ateneum in Bucharest, and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.
Born in Thessaloniki, Antonis Sousamoglou studied at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki before continuing his studies in Berlin at the Hochschule der Künste and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music, with scholarships from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the “Techni” Foundation. He graduated with the Konzertexamen diploma from the Rostock University of Music and Drama and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He holds a PhD from the City University of London, with his doctoral research focusing on the violin works of Nikos Skalkottas.
