Through our collaboration with the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) and the MusXchange programme, our musician Foibi Rousochatzaki represented the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) at the European Youth Boot Camp, which took place in Glasgow from 19th to 23rd March 2019.
Foibi Rousochatzaki talks about her experience there:
“The GYSO is the first Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra to form part of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO). It was indeed very moving to see people from the rest of the orchestras, both musicians and managers, to express their admiration for the high-level performance of the GYSO, despite the fact that it was just recently founded. They also consider us very lucky as the GYSO is one of the few orchestras, perhaps the only one, whose musicians do not have to pay for their participation, or their transfer to locations, for rehearsals or performances. For five days, fifteen musicians from different cultures collaborated and followed a specific programme, which apart from chamber music, also included seminars, projects and concerts. The training and guidance we received, as well as the success of the above activities, became particularly apparent at the concert which was organized for the closing of the Boot Camp, which we all so much enjoyed, despite the very little time intentionally given to us for its preparation. The experience was indeed a unique one!”
