The GYSO receives the Academy of Athens Award

The Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) was honoured to receive the Academy of Athens Award, in the Section of Letters and Fine Arts, in recognition of the orchestra’s work and remarkable activity since its founding in 2017.

The Founder & Artistic Director of the GYSO, Dionysis Grammenos, received the Award from Mr Stamatios Krimigis, President of the Academy of Athens, during the Academy’s celebratory session that was attended by prominent academics, including Mr Prokopios Pavlopoulos – former President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Michael Stathopoulos – Supervisor of the Research Center for the History of Greek Law, and Mr Christos Zerefos – Secretary General of the Academy of Athens.

This distinction highlights a remarkable year for the orchestra, filled with successful performances both in Greece and abroad, and sets the stage for an even stronger trajectory in 2025.

The GYSO is an Orchestra in Residence at Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall and represents Greece in the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras. Over recent years, more than 300 young musicians from 46 cities in Greece and abroad have been selected, after auditions, to participate in its concerts and educational activities.

The work of the GYSO is supported, among others, by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, which is its Founding Donor, the Hellenic Parliament, the Bank of Greece, The Hellenic Initiative, AEGEAS, Bodossaki Foundation, Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, and Aegean Airlines, as the orchestra’s Official Air Carrier Sponsor.
