Musicians of the GYSO present two major chamber music works

The Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra continues this year’s series of concerts at Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall with a special chamber music concert. With a selection of works from the rich repertoire of the 19th century, the musicians highlight the great value of chamber music, which as a smaller ensemble of collective action cultivates and sharpens the reflexes of each performer.

In the intimate atmosphere of the “Dimitris Mitropoulos” Hall, on Saturday 20 May at 20:30, the young musicians present two masterpieces of early German Romanticism, which the audience rarely has the opportunity to enjoy.

These are Louis Spohr’s Nonet in F major for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, violin, viola, cello and double bass, op. 31, a work particularly popular for its delicate sound, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet for strings in E-flat major, op. 20 which stands out for the vigor of its composition.

The preparation of the GYSO musicians is under the direction of Georgios Demertzis,  the internationally recognized virtuoso violinist and founder of the famous New Greek Quartet, who has also developed significant musical and pedagogical activities within and outside the Greek borders.

The concert is a co-production of the GYSO and Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall.
