Leonidas Kavakos joins the GYSO

Following a season of performances on world-renowned stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) returns to Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall with a significant collaboration that showcases its artistic excellence.

On Saturday, December 20th, under the baton of its charismatic founder and conductor Dionysis Grammenos, the GYSO – Youth Orchestra in Residence at Megaron – welcomes the distinguished violinist Leonidas Kavakos, joined by the rising-star cellist Timotheos Gavriilidis-Petrin.

Recognized as one of the world’s most sought-after violinists, renowned for his compelling performances and exceptional technique, Leonidas Kavakos appears with the GYSO for the first time, presenting Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra – the final orchestral work of the great Romantic composer.

The program also features Antonín Dvořák’s monumental Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, a landmark of the symphonic repertoire.
