Athens State Orchestra

Georgios Mandylas was born in Corfu in 1969 and began violin lessons at the age of nine. In 1987, he continued his studies at the Hellenic Conservatory in Athens, under the distinguished professor Stelios Kafantaris, from where he graduated in 1990 with a Violin Diploma, receiving the highest honors and a First Prize, as well as a special medal for the 70th anniversary of the Hellenic Conservatory.

With a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation, he continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London and subsequently at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, where in 1999 he obtained “Solistenklasse”, the highest postgraduate soloist diploma, in the class of Professor Wilchelm Melcher.

He has been awarded the “Howard Prize” of the Royal College of Music in London.

From 1995 to 2008, he was the Concertmaster of the Württembergische Philharmonie.

As a soloist, he has collaborated with symphony orchestras in Germany and Greece, such as the Württembergische Philharmonie, the Athens State Orchestra, and the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, among others. He has also  recorded for Southwest German Radio with the “Mander” string trio.

Since 2008, Georgios Mandylas has been the Principal First Violinist and Deputy Concertmaster of the Athens State Orchestra. He is also a member of the “Aenaon” String Quartet and the ACP (Athens Classical Players) ensemble of the Athens State Orchestra. He teaches violin at the “Musical Horizons” Conservatory.
