Zoi Tsokanou

Zoi Tsokanou has been the artistic director of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra since 2017. With many successful international collaborations in both opera and symphonic music, she is the first woman to take the reins of a major musical organization in Greece. Next season she will appear at the Royal Opera House in London, the Norwegian National Opera and other opera houses, and will conduct the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles.

Her recent major appearances include, among others, the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Grand Theatre of Geneva. Also notable are her collaborations with the Düsseldorf, Lille, Madrid and Sofia Symphony Orchestras, as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra of ERT and the National Opera. Tsokanou has been permanent conductor at the Erfurt Opera House, associate conductor of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Arosa Music Theatre Organisation at the Swiss festival of the same name. She has conducted a multitude of operas, such as “Rigoletto”, “Trovatore”, “Macbeth”, “Othello”, “Simone Bocanegra”, “Tosca”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “Cavalleria Rusticana”, “Magic Flute”, “Don Giovanni”, “Faust” and many others. She has performed at the Lucerne Festival, “Schumann” in Düsseldorf, Athens and elsewhere, and collaborates with soloists such as Gil Shaham, Thomas Hampson, Marlis Petersen, Daniel Müller-Schott, Julianna Avdeeva, Daniel Lozakovich, Alena Baeva.
